Product Marketing & Go-to-Market Strategy · Seoul, working globally

Strategy you can defend with data, tell in one sentence, and scale across markets.

I learned how creators and platforms actually move people at BBDO, what the evidence really says at Kantar's purchase-panel business, and how a story scales at INNOCEAN's global HQ, where I shape how Kia, Hyundai, and Genesis position, launch, and speak to the world. Eight years in, the three still work as one: how culture, media, and what people actually buy move together, and when that pattern travels across markets and when it breaks.

Kia FoD: launching a connected-car subscription from zero

The problem & what I did

A carmaker selling software subscriptions is a new category with no communication conventions. FoD needed a definition before it needed advertising. I owned the launch communication strategy from zero: service positioning, the naming system, the messaging hierarchy, and creative concept direction, proposing "Kia Connect Store" and consolidating services under the existing Kia Connect umbrella rather than launching a new brand. Phase 2 hardened it into a full communication guideline and regional sales-enablement guides.

3.5x growth The naming and message architecture shipped unchanged. The store launched in Korea in 2023 and across 29 European regions in 2024; Kia Connect's European user base has since scaled 3.5x to 1.5M+, with a growing catalog of paid features and content themes.

Kia × FIFA World Cup 2026: partnership marketing on the world's biggest stage

The problem & what I did

A global sponsorship only pays off if the brand platform travels across every market at once. I developed the creative strategy for Kia's official FIFA World Cup 2026 partnership campaign and led the full English-language strategy deck for the pitch, from audience and cultural insight through creative direction and execution principles.

Won & on air The English strategy deck and storyline contributed directly to winning the account; the campaign is now on air worldwide.

Kia EV5 × Netflix: engineering organic reach through IP partnership

The problem & what I did

An EV launch needs reach that media budgets alone cannot buy. I developed the media partnership strategy for the EV5 global launch: deep target-persona definition, a 24-criterion fit model screening streaming slates for brand synergy, and the final partner recommendation with collaboration directions across six markets.

20.2M views The strategy aligned the launch with Netflix's "Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery", which debuted at #1 with 20.2M views in three days, carrying the EV5 into organic feeds across six markets.

Kia's CES PBV debut: naming a new category for everyone

The problem & what I did

Kia used CES to announce Platform Beyond Vehicle, a business the world had no mental model for. I drove the key message strategy, pivoting the story from B2B fleet pitches to value propositions for fleet operators, small businesses, and everyday consumers, approved at C-level.

Shipped intact The message pillars I set launched unchanged as the public exhibition naming, and the work secured an ongoing executive messaging mandate spanning CES key messages and media-day scripts.

Kia's multi-year MarComm roadmap: six regions, one playbook

The problem

Six regional organizations, each with its own market reality, needed a single 3-to-5-year communication strategy they would actually adopt rather than politely ignore.

What I did

Won the pitch, then ran in-market workshops across APAC, MEA, Americas, Europe, India, and CSA with local strategists and clients, synthesized regional insight into one coherent framework, and authored the Kia Global MarComm Playbook.

All markets The playbook, three communication principles, and a re-defined tone of voice were adopted across every region, with compliance instrumented through expanded brand-tracker attributes and a region-level KPI system. On the global tracker, brand favorability has climbed for three consecutive years at twice the competitor rate, and the engagement continued into a second multi-year roadmap in 2026, awarded without a re-pitch.

Kia 80th heritage: a Korea-proven campaign, scaled worldwide

The problem & what I did

An anniversary is either a footnote or a foundation. I designed the full heritage communication strategy, defining six audience segments and the narrative framework connecting eight decades to Kia's future vision, then executed it end to end: executive keynote scripts, exhibition docent narrations, and the global rollout guidelines with market-by-market transcreation direction.

Global rollout Seven activations ran under one message architecture: the ceremony, an 80-year history book, a concept car reveal, an 8-space exhibition of 17 vehicles, a brand film, a digital archive, and a nationwide treasure hunt, aligned across 10+ departments spanning client and agency. The flagship ceremony, held for around 400 guests including government dignitaries and group leadership, ran end to end on scripts I wrote. Proven in Korea, the campaign is now rolling out globally through 2026 as HQ best practice.

Which claims actually sell? A conversion audit of 527 product claims

The problem

Estée Lauder Companies' prestige portfolio in Korea spoke in hundreds of product claims with no evidence of which ones drive purchase. Marketing was optimizing copy on instinct.

What I did

Designed a single-source study linking claim exposure to actual purchase behavior, evaluated 527 claims across 53 products, and rebuilt the brand's claim guideline around what demonstrably converts.

#1 in APAC Kantar Client Impact Award 2022, region-wide winner. Hero-SKU claims were revised across major prestige brands in Korea, driving an immediate +8.6% quarterly sales surge in hero categories; the recommendations were presented to the APAC President and adopted as the regional communication standard.

Winning Korea's exploding e-commerce channels, five at a time

The problem

Online had become Korean beauty's biggest channel, but it had splintered into hundreds of platforms with different shoppers and missions: gifting on KakaoTalk Gifting, search and price comparison on Naver Shopping, trend discovery on Olive Young Online. Estée Lauder Companies led prestige offline and had no map for where to compete first online.

What I did

Co-designed a study combining purchase panel, survey, focus groups, and the team's first mobile passive metering, scored every channel on a quantified priority index, and defined five channels to win, each with a strategic role, core target, purchase trigger, and hero product play.

Top 10 APAC Client Impact Award 2020. The client activated the plan fast: online value growth accelerated to +61.4%, peaking at +400% in emerging channels, the study was re-presented to 100+ APAC stakeholders at the client's request, and the engagement extended into a multi-year contract renewal.

Research & thought leadership

Product marketing runs on knowing why people buy. I studied that question academically, published on it commercially, and still treat it as the job's core discipline.

Creator commerce research
Sponsored content disclosure on YouTube: compliance vs. actual recognition

Content analysis of 136 sponsored videos from a top kids' creator channel against FTC/CARU guidance (intercoder reliability κ=.91), presented at AAA 2019. The finding: formal labeling passed, actual recognizability by viewers failed. That gap between "we disclosed" and "they noticed" is now the center of creator-commerce regulation worldwide.

American Academy of Advertising · Dallas, 2019
Voice commerce research
"Alexa, let's make a trade": discovery, trust, and privacy in voice shopping

Qualitative study of 16 voice-assistant users, presented at ACR 2018. Voice collapses comparison shopping into a single request, privileging whichever brand gets named first, and trust diverges sharply by adoption stage. An early look at what happens to brand discovery when the interface answers with one result.

Messaging science
When storytelling backfires: narrative, guilt, and consumer resistance

Master's thesis, a 2×2×2 experiment with N=272. Narrative reduces resistance to persuasion when moral pressure is moderate, but amplifies it when pressure is high. Tone and form have to be designed as a combination, not optimized separately. I still apply this to every brand-purpose and CSR brief I touch.
